Chris Morson plays the piano. See the young actor/director in the upcoming West Seattle High production of "Merrily We Roll Along," which starts May 8.
Chris Morson arrived in Seattle from Chicago in the seventh grade and the rest is history.
"Merrily We Roll Along" will be Morson’s last performance as a Westsider. Morson has acted in various plays inside and outside the walls of West Seattle High School. Acting isn’t just a side hobby for Morson, it’s a lifestyle.
“When I was a wee child I did musicals like, 'The Velveteen Rabbit' [as the fire truck] and 'Stuart Little' [as Stuart]," said Morson. "I have also been a part of 'John Robert Powers' for the past four years. It is basically a training school for TV acting, print modeling, modeling, etc."
Morson’s dedication to acting is clear through his great talent on the stage, and he plans to continue acting after he graduates.
“I have received acceptance from Columbia College in Chicago and as of now, that’s where I am going,” said Morson. “But I am still waiting to hear back from many others. My top choice I am waiting to hear back from is North Carolina School of the Arts, and it kills me everyday when I go home and there isn’t anything in the mailbox.”
Actor isn’t the only role Morson has; he was also the director of the play, "No Exit."
“Being a director was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life,” said Morson. “It was hard to be the actors’ friends as well as their boss and mentor. Picking the show was especially hard because I had no idea what I wanted to do. When I picked 'No Exit', Mr. Finley was shocked because it was a very difficult play to direct. It is usually not a show for a high school student to put on but I decided to take the challenge.”
Morson is very proud of the turnout of his directed play.
“In the end I couldn’t have been more proud of my show, my actors, and everything it took to make that show as good as it was," he said.
Morson’s high school experience was anything but dull, and he actively found new things to occupy himself through the seasons. And he said it will be something that he will never forget.
“In high school I have been a part of the best football team West Seattle High School has ever seen, I have been a champion wrestler, and I have starred and directed my own shows," said Morson. "I feel when I look back in high school I will remember all these things I have done and I will be proud. I am so gracious to all the people who have ever helped me become the person I am today.”
