Police Blotter Week of 5.25.09: Born to (hit and) run
Fri, 05/22/2009
A 29-year-old Arbor Heights man (and his 27-year-old friend who was visiting from New Mexico) were arrested after being involved in three hit and runs and assaults on Friday the 15th. In the 4300 block of Admiral Way, they rear-ended a car, punched the victim driver (who got out to exchange insurance information) at least twelve times and tried to run him over. At Alki, they rear-ended a parked car and then started to walk away from the scene. When a female yelled at them to stop, one suspect returned, punched the male driver at least three times and then kicked in the victim's car door (causing $1,500 damage). A quick-thinking citizen photographed the suspects and their car. Officers later arrested the pair at the suspect's home. The friend can be charged with non-aggravated assault. The local suspect faces five charges of non-aggravated assault, felony assault with a vehicle, and three charges of hit and run.
An intoxicated 40-year-old black male jumped from a car at the Junction, screamed that he was being racially profiled. Told to leave the area, he refused, but emptied his pockets, removed his belt, raised it above his head and charged one officer, yelling, “I'm gonna whip your a$* like a slave.” He also ordered that the officers might want to satisfy him orally. They declined to do so, but were happy to book him into King County jail for investigation of aggravated assault against an officer with a weapon, obstruction, and threats. The suspect later admitted he had been drinking at several bars and had just been thrown out of Puerto Vallarta restaurant.
Tuesday afternoon, as she arrived home from school (in the 3800 block of 44th Southwest), a 14-year-old was attacked by a 16-17-year-old suspect who grabbed her from behind. The savvy girl screamed “FIRE” and kicked the suspect, who fled south through an alley and eastbound on Southwest Andover. He is a white male with long dirty blond or brown hair and freckles. He wore dark pants with wide legs.
Late Wednesday, in the Admiral area, an intoxicated 47-year-old burst into his mother's home and accused her boyfriend of “taking advantage” of her. After punching, slapping and pushing the boyfriend (and the boyfriend's brother), the suspect picked up a loaded crossbow, pointed it at the victim, and pulled the trigger several times. (Luckily, the safety mechanism was engaged, and the suspect didn't know how to release it.) Before fleeing, the suspect threatened to kill the boyfriend if he wasn't out of the house by the following day. Officers arrested the suspect when he returned home several hours later. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence assault and harassment.
Some young men went to a lot of effort to pull a prank at a local fast-food restaurant: They stole an old automobile seat from the back of a nearby pickup truck, broke a small tree limb, stood on the seat and used the limb to rearrange the letters on a reader-board. They also stuck a garbage can in the middle of the nearby roadway. The group of six or seven middle-school suspects had left the scene before officers arrived.
Early Friday, officers visited the home of a man wanted on a $10,000 DUI warrant. They were let into the house by his sister and were able to arrest the suspect as he slept.
To escape an assault by “strangers” on Walnut Southwest, a bloodied 24-year-old man fled into West Seattle High School around 8 a.m. Friday. An ambulance transported the suspect to Harborview for treatment. School security staff had officers tell the man not to return to the school.
Two West Seattle High School students were arrested after fleeing from a stolen car they were driving in the Alki area. One, an adult, was booked into King County Jail. The other was booked into the Youth Service Center.
