Summer Print exhibit at ArtsWest
Fri, 07/10/2009
Dennis Raines, Marcie Myrick, Elise Lindborg, Joseph Traina explore diverse contemporary printmaking techniques in ArtsWest’s exhibition, Pull This: Summer Print Exhibit, from June 28 through July 25.
The free exhibit is noon to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
All four artists in this show create work from various printmaking techniques, including collographs with pastel and colored pencil, hybrid digital and silkscreen prints, unique Polaroid land camera photos, woodblock prints and engravings.
A professional artist of national renown and educator, Raines received his MFA at UC Davis and was visiting faculty at Cornish College of the Arts and California State University Sacramento. He is well known for his experimental work in hybrid print technology, which he refers to as tradigital printmaking. His work at ArtsWest explores both traditional and digital techniques for captivating and thought provoking prints.
Traina is a local photographic-based artist exploring the world with a Polaroid camera, an incredible whit and gifted use of color. Since the Polaroid Land Camera only makes one direct positive print, each image is a unique piece of art.
Lindborg is a traditional printmaker that thoroughly enjoys the experience of inking of the plate, hours of gluing, mixing inks, coating, rolling, brushing and embossing. “One of the greatest thrills for me is when I run a freshly inked plate through the press and pull the paper off the plate. After hours of work there are three things that can happen: the print turns out exactly as planned, the print has an unexpected and unique flavor that I didn’t foresee or the print is a complete and absolute disaster.” Her exuberance and playfulness shine brightly with these colorful works on paper.
Myrick is also a rising star in the local art scene. A recent graduate of Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle and member of the local printmaking studio, PrintZero Studios, she is part of an international group of printmakers that exhibit all over the world. Her work seamlessly blends painting and printmaking with organic lines, shapes and harmonious colors that give her two dimensional work movement and a definitive emotional response during viewing. This exhibit is sure to be a delight for the serious printmaker as well as the regular attendee of the gallery. Join the artists at their opening reception on July 9th from 6-9pm.
Our community of artists reaches out every month during the 2nd Thursday art walk. Treat yourself and join all three artists at their wine and cheese reception on July 9th, from 6-9pm.
