Police Blotter Week of 7.27.09: Mystery catch
Fri, 07/31/2009
A Luna Park fisherman hooked an interesting catch on Saturday evening and flagged down an officer to turn it in: From the depths had come a canvas bag full of paperwork, clothing, ID, photo albums, and other personal items, including religious garb. There was no answer when officers called the bag's apparent owner (a New York man who had moved to Tukwila). After calling a few other numbers found in the paperwork, officers established that the man had moved here for a marriage that didn't work out. The bag and contents have been placed in the SPD property room.
Late Saturday evening, a black male, 5 feet 4 inches, aged 30 to 49, asked for a pack of cigarettes and then pulled a gun on a clerk at a Fauntleroy-area gas station. The clerk provided some cash and the suspect took off northbound on foot.
In the Westwood area, a man was upset that his wife's scalp had been injured after a beauty treatment. He went to the salon for a return of her money, but when he was told the manager was unavailable, he made a sign and held it outside the business, warning, “”This spa made my wife's hair fall out!” The manager was suddenly available, but not for a chat: He and a friend punched the protester in the face several times, knocked him to the ground, jumped on him, and hit him in the back of the head. The two suspects were booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
A 32-year-old man, angry that a Metro driver let a non-service canine onto the bus, told the driver to “F” off. He then spat on the driver, left the bus, and tried to hide in some bushes in the 3000 block of Avalon Way. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
Officers suggested a local grandmother contact the courts about gaining custody of her 2-year-old grandson whose mother left him two months ago and never returned. The child's father is currently incarcerated but has told grandma that the child's mom uses meth.
This past week, a 17-year-old girl smacked her aunt with her hands and a broom handle before shoving her into a bathroom and locking it from the outside. The victim has been told numerous times to get a court order against the teen but has failed to do so.
Around 8 p.m. Friday, a 35-year-old Federal Way resident with eight aliases was arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, obstruction and resisting arrest after a fight at Alki. He and three friends allegedly attacked another couple (who were strangers to them) at the beach. Officers had to call for backup as the four suspects started screaming obscenities and refused commands to put their hands on the car. The three other suspects—one from High Point, one from Burien, and a third from Port Orchard--were taken to the Southwest Precinct and identified and released.
A 15-year-old who is already in treatment went “out of control” and tried to climb on the roof of her grandmother's house when she was asked to do chores. The teen told the officer, “I am a psycho.” Relatives report the girl is off her meds and had been banging her head on tables and walls. She was transported to Highline Hospital for treatment.
