Police Blotter Week of 8.10.09: Duck, duck
Mon, 08/10/2009
On Monday, a man was feeding ducks under the South Park bridge when another man approached, accused him of “messing with a woman,” and then shoved him down a rocky embankment. The victim lost consciousness but was later able to make it home and call 911. Based on the description by the victim, a suspect was located nearby, and he was later positively ID'd by both the victim and witnesses in the park. The officer's investigation and photographs of the scene showed that the victim had fallen approximately 12 feet, face down, onto rocks and into the Duwamish River. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault. He is also being investigated for misdemeanor domestic violence assault, as he allegedly also left the area with a woman who was being forcefully handled. Doctors say the victim suffered a shattered nose/cheek bone, possibly broken ribs, lacerations, bruising to the side of the face and a closed eye. The results of head X-rays are pending.
The man arrested at his ex-girlfriend's house said sure, he knew there was a court order that barred him from being there. But he just wanted to pick up his hard hat and some clothes. Perhaps he got some new clothes at King County Jail, where he was booked for violating the order.
Wednesday, around 1 p.m., a man robbed the Key Bank at California and Alaska at the Junction. He displayed the butt of a handgun that was tucked into his waistband, and told the teller to, “Hurry up.” It's believed he escaped in a 90s Chevy Caprice that had a police spotlight and a black male inside. The suspect is also a black male, aged 30-50. He had a heavy build, a mustache, and round glasses. His white T-shirt had some sort of tiki god or voodoo doll image.
Overnight, between the 2nd and 3rd, someone threw rocks and shattered the front five windows of an Avalon Way business. The owner says that this is one of four separate incidents that have occurred in the last few months.
Wednesday evening, a driver on Harbor Avenue called 911 to report that a car with flashing lights and horns was following her and that the driver had pointed a handgun in her direction. An officer saw the suspect car, turned his vehicle around and followed the man, pulling him over in the 1100 block of Harbor Avenue. The driver gave officers three different names and had no ID. He turned out to be a 32-year-old Shoreline resident. No gun was found, but a large silver tire iron was on the floorboard within his reach. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of harassment.
A 17-year-old with a history of mental illness was booked into the Youth Service Center after he grabbed at the crotch of a man who was walking by. The boy claimed he had simply fallen from his bicycle and that the contact was accidental. But the family the boy is staying with says that such behavior has happened before.
At 122nd and Evanston, an officer made a stop on a car with tabs that had expired in 2006. The driver, a 43-year-old West Seattle resident, had no proof of insurance, was driving with a suspended license, and was under active Department of Corrections supervision for methamphetamine use. He explained to the officer that the meth pipe in the back seat wasn't his—that it belonged to friends. The officer of course then reminded him that the conditions of his release said he was not to hang around with drug users. He was booked into King County Jail for driving with the suspended license but was cited for the other infractions.
