Monday around 2 p.m., a citizen stepped in—or should that be “pulled in”—to assist Fred Meyer employees who were chasing after two shoplifters. As the crooks ran out the door, electric mixers in hand, the helpful driver pulled in behind their getaway vehicle, blocking them from backing out. One thief yelled, “go over the curb!” and the getaway driver managed to sideswipe another car as they peeled out toward the Ballard Bridge. On the bright side, they left the loot behind.
Spatter on the ground and a bloody thermos were left near 9th Northwest and 48th on Tuesday morning, after two men attacked a third, leaving him with a broken nose and swollen cheek. After a witness saw the two suspects kick and stomp on the victim's head, he decided to intervene, fending the suspects off with a baseball bat until officers could arrive. The two assailants—one a Ballard resident, the other from south Seattle—were booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
Early Monday, in the 7000 block of 19th Northwest, an officer responded to a disturbance call and found a woman carrying a child, stumbling down the street. She said her friends were being mean to her and that she was going home. (It was obvious to the officer that the woman thought she was in Lake City.) The friends had called 911 out of concern for the child—but mom had worn out her welcome by being angry and aggressive all evening. The officer couldn't transport the two, as the available car seat for the child wouldn't fit in the patrol vehicle. Ultimately, the exasperated friends finally pooled some money together to send mom and child home in a cab.
Tuesday night, in the 5200 block of Leary Avenue Northwest, a couple that has no contact orders against each other as well as outstanding warrants both ended up in King County Jail after the male half called 911 to report that he'd been assaulted. The fact that the two are not supposed to be around each other hasn't seemed to factor into their decision to share an apartment.
The night before, officers had been dispatched to a disturbance in a van parked at 22nd Northwest and Northwest 63rd. The couple inside had been arguing, and the woman (who had a no-contact order against the man) also happened to be wanted on a $5,000 warrant for driving with a suspended license. The male half of the couple was wanted on a $5,000 assault warrant. Both were booked into King County Jail for the warrants, and the man also faces charges for violating the no contact order.
