Constantine's former competitors for King County Executive have announced their endorsement of the King County Council Chair.
All three of the major candidates in the race for King County Executive that did not move forward from the August primary election – eastside legislators Fred Jarrett and Ross Hunter, and King County Council member Larry Phillips of Seattle – have announced their endorsement of Dow Constantine for the executive position.
Jarrett, Hunter and Phillips captured more than 35 percent of the vote in the primary contest. Constantine is running against former television anchor Susan Hutchison, who garnered more than 33 percent of the vote in the Aug. 18 primary.
“Along the campaign trail I had the opportunity to see Dow Constantine on many occasions," Jarrett said. "I came away convinced Dow offers a rare combination of experience with a commitment to changing the way King County does business. It’s the combination our next County Executive needs. I am proud to endorse Dow Constantine and look forward to doing what I can to get him elected."
“I’m supporting Dow Constantine because he has the background and knowledge to effectively run the County," Hunter said. "Dow and I have had serious discussions about the policy changes needed to put King County on a sound basis. I look forward to continuing to work on policy strategy with him,” “Moreover, Dow is committed to representing all of King County, not just one city or community. I will be urging my supporters and constituents to offer him their support."
In a press release, Constantine thanked his former rivals for their support.
“I want to commend my colleagues Fred, Larry and Ross for running campaigns of ideas and of substance," he said. "All three brought outstanding records of public service as well as fresh ideas to the table, and we learned a great deal from one another. I am honored to have their support. The race against Susan Hutchison is not going to be easy. It is one of stark contrasts in both values and ability to get the job done. We have a lot of work to do, and I look forward to reaching out to my former rivals’ supporters as we continue to take this campaign across King County between now and the November election.”
The general election is Nov. 3.
