Police Blotter Week of 9.28.09: Where's daddy?
Mon, 09/28/2009
An Arbor Heights resident took a scenic tour around the Charlestown area on Friday, running into five different parked cars and a telephone pole before pulling over near 39th and Bradford. A witness (who followed the driver after seeing the first collision) reports that after parking, the driver opened the car door and fell into the street. The driver (whose shirt, the officer noticed, was on inside out) claimed he had had only one 16 oz beer—yet he couldn't walk in a straight line and swayed when he tried to stand still. He was issued a criminal citation for DUI and driven home by a sober friend. The good news is that he was stopped before he could pick up his daughter (from a relative) and drive her home.
At West Seattle Stadium on Saturday morning, spectators fled the stands after a fight broke out between two men and one pointed a handgun, first at his fellow combatant and then at the field. A player spotted the weapon and yelled, “Gun! Gun!” before charging into the stands and subduing the suspect with a choke hold. Before officers arrived, the suspect and a friend fled in a red Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera convertible, which was last seen headed eastbound on the West Seattle Bridge.
Sharp eyes: While on patrol in the 6400 block of 30th Southwest, an officer recognized a man from a recent BOLO (Be on the Lookout) felony advisory. The suspect was identified, arrested and booked into King County Jail on a $10,000 warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm.
Around 9 a.m. on Sept. 21, a man entered Zatz a Better Bagel, stole money from the tip jar then yelled and took a swing at employees who tried to persuade him to return the cash. A citizen followed the suspect and watched as he made a purchase at a convenience store and got into a verbal dispute with another person in front of Lafayette School. The suspect eventually arrived at the bus shelter near the PCC, where officers arrested him. The 25-year-old south Seattle resident was booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery (with body force). His total haul? About $5—minus the 33 cents he spent at the convenience store for a piece of taffy.
Around 4 a.m. On Sept. 22, a woman heard noises at her door in the 3200 block of California Avenue Southwest. Concerned that someone was trying to get in, she decided to investigate. Although she saw no one at the door, there were visible pry marks and fragmented wood around the door frame.
Officers were called to West Seattle High School when administrators recognized a young man on campus who was both a missing person and who was wanted on a felony warrant (juvenile) for robbery. The 16-year-old was booked into the Youth Service Center.
While driving on Admiral Way, an officer ran a license plate on the computer and found that the car's registered owner had a suspended license. Stopping the vehicle, the officer confirmed the driver's identity. He also confirmed that the owner was wanted on a warrant for theft. The 44-year-old was also carrying marijuana—but wasn't carrying any proof of insurance. He was booked into King County Jail.
