The Ballard High School volleyball team held off Inglemoor as long as they could but couldn't pull out the win in the end, losing 3-2 on Sept. 30.
The Beavers (1-3 conference, 3-3 overall) took the first game of the match 25-22, their first game win since Sept. 21. Ballard lost the next two to Inglemoor (3-1 conference, 4-3 overall) by scores of 25-18 and 25-20.
But, the Beavers weren't out of it yet, taking the match to a fifth and final game with a 25-15 win in the fourth game.
Inglemoor narrowly put Ballard away with a 15-13 win to seal the match.
Despite the loss, Ballard's third in a row, coach Tami Reese said she is seeing improvement.
"We just completely turned it around from Monday night (a 3-0 loss to Bothell)," Reese said. "Too bad we didn't get the win, but the girls played their hearts out."
Lisa Day led the Beavers with 24 kills and 16 digs.
Deanna Myers and Marjorie Pichon added 14 and 10 digs respectively, while Madelyn Voelker and Audrey Pefferman totaled 11 kills each.
Monique Marques racked up 44 assists for Ballard.
The Beavers will travel to Pacific Cascade Freshman Campus in Issaquah on Oct. 5 for a 7 p.m. match against Issaquah High School (3-1 conference, 3-4 overall).
