Thomas Jefferson turned loose a triple threat group of links players to turn asunder home team Federal Way, 85-75, in regular season ending South Puget Sound League boys golf on Thursday at North Shore Golf Course.
With October 21-22 district action coming up at Gold Mountain, Raider head coach Dave Hunter was pleased with the proceedings that featured the best SPSL score of the season at the North Shore course.
"We're playing our best golf at the end of the year," he said about his team that finished at 4-6. "We had three guys that played great today. Erik Jarvey has been amazing. He recorded the best season of any golfer in Jefferson history. For 10 rounds he played this season, he finished at 4-under par."
Jarvey carded a 2-under 34 on the 3,058-yard front nine to earn medalist honors. The Raider senior nestled a 70-yard wedge shot within five feet of the cup on the 301-yard par 4 hole No. 7 to set up a birdie and also canned a 4-foot putt for birdie on the 497-yard par 5 ninth.
"I played consistently and didn't have any really bad shots," he attested. Jarvey scored 20 points to lead in that category as well.
Teammate Corbin White posted a 1-under 35 and scored 19 points on the strength of a 5-foot birdie putt on No. 3. White shot his round with eight pars and the one birdie.
"I just tried to stay relaxed and calm," he said.
The key to Raider Brent Brown's 1-over 37 and 17 points was obvious.
"I was hitting my tee shots well on a consistent basis," he observed. "I was able to stay in the fairways."
Rounding out the Raider scores and points were Jeff Brisher (42 and 13), Brian Moe (45 and 9) and Erik Lindenauer (47 and 7).
Federal Way head coach Mike Minahan was also happy with his 1-9 team despite the loss to crosstown Jefferson.
"This is the best team score we've had in five years," he exclaimed. "We've had this ability, but haven't been able to put it together with our ups and downs this season. Today was more indicative of what we should have been doing."
Senior Joey Avery was among an Eagle trio that carded 40 over the nine holes. He led the FW points parade with 15.
"I just hit bombs off the tee and had short shots to the green," said Avery.
TJ Horsfall used similar strategy to post 40 and earn 14 points.
"I got the long drive on lock today," was his recollection. "Normally, I use driver and sand wedge. I was able to get down in two putts regularly."
Jordan Ferguson also relied on long drives and short irons to card 40 with 14 points.
"Everything from 9-iron on down was money," he said.
Other scores and points of the Eagles were from Gary Lin (41 and 13), Lucas Tisdel (44 and 10) and Travis Bjork (46 and 9).
