No smoking please
Police were called to a complaint at Denny's Restaurant, 14821 1st Ave. S. A customer ate his meal and decided to have a cigarette. He went into the men's restroom of the restaurant and started smoking. An employee went into the restroom and asked the customer to leave but he refused. Police trespassed the man from the restaurant.
No free hotdogs here
A man entered the 7-11 at 2000 International Boulevard South to get something to eat. He asked the clerk for three hotdogs. When the clerk asked him to pay the man said he will pay for them later, he has a girl out working for him. The clerk told him no and the subject got upset, made a fist and spit on the clerk. The customer faces charges of fourth degree assault.
Missing Tukwila man
Sheriff's deputies are looking for a Tukwila man who is missing in the mountains between Ellensburg and Naches. The Kittitas County Sheriff's office say 62-year-old Dwight Bates had been elk hunting in the Manastash area and was attempting to drive to Highway 410. He called his son to say road conditions were bad. He told his son he believed he could get back to Barbara Springs where he could take the Umptanum Road over the top, Undersheriff Clayton Myers said.
Bates was driving a 1967 Ford pick-up truck that is green and white with a matching canopy, with Washington license plate B39032C. Search officials and volunteers are working out of the Manastash Snow Park.
Charges filed in arson
A couple is charged with intentionally setting fire to their own apartment complex in order to collect more than $25,000 in renter's insurance. Christopher Alan Garcia and Jennifer Joy Bennett are charged with first-degree arson for the fire that tore through the Whisperwoods apartment complex located at 11838 26th Avenue South.
On May 27, the fire started in Bennetts' ground floor unit and quickly spread to the entire building. Officials estimate the damage at more than $1 million.
According to court papers, three weeks before the fire, Bennett moved many of her valuables out of the complex to protect them from being burned. Garcia and Bennett received more than $25,000 from Farmers Insurance. The couple purchased renter's insurance just two months prior to the arson. Both Garcia and Bennett are being held at the King County Jail.
