"I wanted to get in and help out," said Marcy Shadow, school teacher at Hamilton International Middle School in Wallingford who lives near Chief Sealth High School. She purchased two pizza pies.
Amy Gourley and Joe Duran bought a Canadian Bacon pizza and pepperoni pizza Wednesday night.
"We tried to get in yesterday but the line was around the block," said Duran.
"It was extremely busy last night," said Stephanie Berg, a manager at Papa Johns on Wednesday night. "We got it a lot more under control tonight. The line is moving faster, because we are sticking to one-topping pizza. We're delivering out of our area for orders over $150 and many are not accepting our discounts and prefer to pay full price. I think this fundraiser is a great thing."
Scott Taylor and Dwain Bierig of Burien came out when they learned about the fundraiser on Facebook. They bought pizza with their own money, and were preparing to hand out pizza to the homeless who hang out by the "bus barn" in Burien.
"We thought it would be really cool if people had something hot to drink," said Luigi Linguini, as he calls himself. He represents the ever-lampooning "Westseattle Funblog." His colleague, Tony Tolmich, came up with the idea of handing out free coffee to customers awaiting their pizza pies in the cold.
"The good people at the Morgan Junction Tully's donated an 80-cup cambro of coffee and we're parked right against the building in our 'Funmobile," said Linguini.
Fun aside, he said he takes this fundraiser, and the death of the four officers to heart.
"My father is a 23-year retired Contra Costa, California, sheriff," he said. "I am very glad he is still around. He survived a lot of dangerous years on the force."
