We asked a few West Seattleites about their resolutions for 2010. What are yours?
As the New Year rolls around, many of us resolve to improve our lives. For some, the goals of losing weight or giving up smoking are admirable but of course the cliché is that we dive into dessert and resume puffing by March. Some area residents agreed to share their resolutions and seem committed to make theirs last throughout 2010.

As a citizen of West Seattle and a representative of the Alki Community Council I will work to increase community support for our police department so that more people recognize the good things they do. I would like to make sure they’re getting compliments on a day-to-day basis. They are amazingly talented and their work is heartfelt, risking their lives for other people to protect us. They just don’t get enough positive. They’re really fine, fine people.

A year ago at this time I was 126 pounds and just survived radiation and chemo from throat cancer, so my resolution is to remember that each day is a freebie. I am a lot like horseradish root. Once it gets growing it’s hard to kill, even with a blowtorch.
Satomi Shiraishi, 20, student now in West Seattle
This year I want to study English more and find what I really want to study and do with my life after I go back to Japan.
Caron Harrang
I will pursue my professional writing to get published. Also, this is the year of my social life, to find a really good boyfriend. Some drama is OK, but not too much.
Tom Lin, owner, Alki Homestead Inn
To be able to move forward with the Alki Homestead Inn so that it will last for another 100 years. (Note: The Seattle Department of Neighborhood Landmark board will soon determine if the fire-damaged structure is repairable. Still, Lin wants the restaurant itself to return.)
Sammie Tullen
I want to be the healthiest I can, and to work hard, I mean really work, for prosperity in the new year as a personal trainer, www.personalcoachseattle.com
Lois Schipper
To listen more and talk less.
Zoey Salsbury, 12, 7th grader
I really want to try the School of Acrobatics (& New Circus Arts) in Georgetown because we started doing circus school at the school I attend.
Molly Warshaw, 10
To study more about animals to become a vet. I am interested in dogs, horses, mostly just farm animals like pigs. This year I will save money to get books about vets.
Lisa Alley
My number one goal is just so practical. I need to spend less so that I can travel within my budget.
Now that you seen some West Seattleite's resolutions, what are yours? Share them in the comments.
