Seattle Public Schools has released a schedule of open houses at every school in the next few weeks, aimed at helping parents learn more about schools in their attendance area as well as option schools open to their students under the school district’s new student assignment plan.

The new student assignment plan and new attendance area boundaries were approved by the School Board in 2009. The new plan will be implemented in phases beginning with the 2010-11 school year. Students currently enrolled may remain at their current school through the highest grade as long as the services the student needs are available at the school.

Students entering kindergarten and grades 6 and 9 in fall 2010 will be assigned to their attendance area schools and receive their assignment in late February. If families wish to apply to attend another attendance area school or an option school, they may do so during Open Enrollment, (March 1-31, 2010). Weeknight open houses will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday open houses will be held from 10 a.m.-noon, unless otherwise noted in the schedule. The intended audiences for these open houses are parents and guardians, so no child care will be available. For interpretation services, please contact the school three days before the scheduled open house date. School visits during the daytime will provide other opportunities to learn about schools; dates and times will be available soon.

The schedule for each school is as follows, with weeknight open houses held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday open houses from 10 a.m. – noon unless otherwise noted. Many of the open houses will include a formal presentation, so parents and guardians are encouraged to arrive at the beginning of the event.
