Overall team depth powered the unbeaten Thomas Jefferson gymnastics team to victory against three opponents on Wednesday at the Todd Beamer gym.
In a preview of possible district and state contenders, the Raiders accumulated a season high 170.95 points to outscore the host Titans' 167.80. Kentridge (148.85) and the North Thurston School district squad (138.75) came next.
Samantha West of Todd Beamer edged out teammate Cassie Peterson 36.3-36.2 for the all-around honors while winning the uneven parallel bars at 8.7. West also captured second place on the vault (9.3), fourth on the floor exercise (8.8) and a tie for fourth on the balance beam (9.5) as part of her total.
"I was kind of nervous to start, but I felt better once it started," she recalled. "My best tonight was on the vault with my tsuk pike."
Peterson maneuvered to second place finishes on the beam (9.6) and floor (9.25). She also captured third place ribbons on the vault (9.15) and the bars (8.2).
Jessica Freeborn notched an 8.55 sixth on the vault in an individual event.
With only one all-around performer missing the meet due to an ankle injury, Beamer head coach Gina Foster was delighted despite finishing second.
"This was amazing," she declared. "Everyone did very well and stuck their routines. Our goal is still to stay healthy and do well as we head on through the season."
Doing well in an unbeaten (11-0) meet season, the Raiders were also more concerned with doing their best and improving toward district and state qualifying action later in the season.
"We don't really pay close attention to team scores while we're competing," stated veteran Raider head coach Debbie Hunter. "We're starting to gel as a team. Each week, we have different kids contribute in a number of ways. It's all about team. The girls learn and get better as we get closer to the really important district and state qualifying meets."
Madi Kelar led Jefferson team victory with a third place all-around score of 36.15. The Raider star leaped to a first place 9.3 on the floor exercise and stuck her beam routine for a first place 9.7. Fourth place on the vault (9.05) and a tie for fourth place on the bars (8.1) added to her total.
"It's been really fun," she declared. "I've learned a lot and all of us really stepped up."
Jefferson depth came into play with the next two all-around spots going to Raider gymnasts.
Earning a 35.16 fourth place in all-arounds was Shelby Church. She combined a second on bars (8.5), third on floor exercise (9.0), a tie for fourth on bars (8.1) and a fifth on vault (8.6) for her her total score.
Monica Church dialed in to fifth place at 35.15 on the strength of a stirring 9.5 first place on the vault. Church added a fourth place tie on the bars (8.1) and ties for sixth on the beam (9.45) and floor (8.1).
Kim Concillado claimed a tie for sixth on the floor (8.1).
