Police Blotter Week of 2-08-10
Tue, 02/09/2010
Around 5:30 Monday morning the 8th, two masked men—one armed with a handgun—made their way into the Admiral Jack-in-the Box and demanded all of the money. Employees were made to lie on the ground, and one was pistol whipped. The robbers escaped with about $7,000. A K9 unit tracked the scent, which ended less than a block away, and it's thought that the pair fled in a vehicle parked nearby. The suspects are black males who wore masks and gloves. One had blue eyes. No other physical descriptions were available at press time.
On Thursday the 4th, around 1:30 a.m., three masked and gloved men entered the Harbor Avenue 7-11 and yelled at the clerk to “open the register.” One of the suspects pointed a handgun; another punched the clerk in the head. After stealing money and cigarettes, the three fled the store. Video shows that one suspect was a stocky Asian or light-skinned black male with a pony tail. He wore a black leather coat, and his pants were a mixture of denim, black, and orange. The race of the other two wasn't clear, but one of the men wore one black glove and one white glove and a dark gray and white hoody covered with images of skulls.
Down on Alki Avenue, a woman was running down the road and approached officers in a patrol car. She claimed she had been beat up at the mental hospital, but stated that she wanted to tell her story to “real police.” She ran back to the middle of the road, dropped to her back and wouldn't cooperate. It seems she had also been yelling in a restaurant, had made her way behind the bar, and tried to pour drinks—all the while knocking glasses and liquor to the ground. While awaiting transport to Harborview for a mental exam, she repeatedly called one of the officers by her boyfriend's name.
Told via phone that she had won a contest, an 89-year-old was advised to wire $700 to the address the caller provided. She did so, but when she arrived home, the caller was on the line again, saying that she had won an additional $1.2 million. The hitch? She needed to wire $27,000 in order to claim it. When the victim arrived at the bank to withdraw the funds, the manager told her she had been scammed and that she should call the police.
Around 4 a.m. Saturday, three roommates were cleaning up following a party at their Westwood-area home, when three shots were fired into their residence. Luckily no one was hurt, but the bullets did lodge in two chairs and in a rear wall of the home. The victims think that the suspect might be a 19-year-old man who had been forced to leave the party after an argument.
An Arbor Heights mail carrier went to check on a customer whose mail had not been taken out of the box for several days. Approaching the home,he looked through a window and saw the woman lying on the floor. He called 911. The medical examiner declared her deceased and took care of the body. Animal control was called to care for the woman's dog, who was found sitting passively on a chair in the corner.
