Marcee Stone makes bid for 34th District Pos. 2
Fri, 02/19/2010
Democrat Marcee Stone announced her candidacy for 34th District State Representative Position 2 today. Incumbent Senator Joe McDermott is running for the County Council seat vacated by King County Executive Dow Constantine. Position 2 incumbent Sharon Nelson is seeking McDermott’s seat in the Senate, creating a vacancy in her current position in the House of Representatives. Marcee is running to fill this vacancy.
Marcee Stone has been the Board President for statewide organization Washington Public Campaigns (www.washclean.org) since 2007 and has been active in fighting for public campaign financing bills in the legislature. In 2008 the Governor signed SB 5278 allowing the use of public funds to finance campaigns for local office and Marcee is currently working for the passage of the Supreme Court Fair Elections bills (SB 5912/HB 1738).
All three legislators from the 34th have signed on to these bills and the following is excerpted from the 34th District Democrats’ past platform, “We support limitations on individual and corporate contributions and on candidate spending, and public financing for elections for national office.” To that end, Marcee has pledged not to take contributions from corporations or PACs.
Marcee’s roots are deep in the 34th District having grown up near Holy Family School in White Center, which she attended, and in Highland Park as a child. She graduated from Kennedy High School in Burien. She graduated from the University of Washington with a BFA degree in Drama. As a young adult she worked as a professional actor in Seattle and New York, and was a member of AEA, AFTRA, and SAG unions during her acting career. Marcee has worked in law firms for over 20 years on complicated legal cases including the Exxon Valdez. She is a member of the Sierra Club.
An active Democrat, Marcee currently serves on the Washington State Democrats Central Committee representing the 34th Legislative District. She previously served on the 34th’s e-board and represented the 34th to the King County Democrats’ Executive Committee, and was an Obama delegate to the 2008 State Convention. Marcee was the Moderator for Chinatown/ID Meet the Candidates Forum in 2009 and has hosted fundraisers for Joe McDermott and Dow Constantine.
Friends of Marcee Stone will host a Meet the Candidate event Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the ILWU Union Hall on 2414 SW Andover from 5 to 7. For more information, visit Marcee’s website at http://www.marceefor34th.com/index.html.
"This is a meet the candidate event, with food and beverages. I'll be discussing my campaign, signing up volunteers and raising money. I've been endorsed by Port Commissioner Rob Holland, Representative Mark Miloscia and Senator Eric Oemig," Stone said.
