Police Blotter week of 2-22-10
Mon, 02/22/2010
Three members of one family—mom, dad, and son—ended up in King County Jail last week after a family disturbance. But only dad's arrest was related to the initial reason for the visit. Officers had to call for “fast backup” when mom tried to prevent officers from entering the home and then pushed an officer and interfered with arrest of her son. Son struggled with officers and failed to obey police orders. Both mom and son face investigation of obstructing a public officer. Dad faces investigation of domestic violence assault.
The 24-year-old woman was not happy that her husband had been involved in a second drunk driving incident. But as he was arrested on two DUI warrants totalling $27,500 initially, she directed her anger at the officers for the way they took her husband out of the house, following them outside, demanding their business cards, and yelling, “I don't f*&@'n care that cops are getting shot.”
A prompt call to 911—along with excellent citizen descriptions—led to the arrest of three teens for property destruction last week, after they were spotted painting graffiti on the wall of the Junction Rite-Aid. The three were released to guardians. One faces an additional charge of marijuana possession. Another was carrying a suspected powdered narcotic/controlled substance and may face additional charges as well.
Tired of paying for all of the family finances (and for damages to their house), a woman expressed her concerns to her spouse. Hubby responded by punching a hole through a door. Scared that the situation would escalate, mom sent the kids away and told them to call 911. Officers arrived and booked the man into King County Jail for investigation of domestic violence property damage.
Citizens called 911 to report a suspicious man going door-to-door without proper credentials. Officers found the man who, when stopped, admitted that he was wanted on a warrant for driving with a suspended license. He was promptly taken into custody.
A 36-year-old Mercer Island woman sidled up to a stranger outside an Alki restaurant and asked him for “crack.” The 22-year old man was startled by the question, and even more startled when the woman began leaning on him and touching his chest. He said, “Please ma'am, do not touch me.” Apparently stunned by his lack of interest, she exclaimed, “How dare you?” and slapped him on the cheek. Patrons inside the restaurant watched the young man try to get away from not only the first intoxicated woman, but her drunk sister as well. Before he could get inside and call 911, the women grabbed him by the neck and ripped off his earphones. Drunk sister was still at the restaurant when officers arrived, and in a rambling and “difficult to comprehend” statement, she said she had gone outside to defend her sister. It was her misfortune that the restaurant patrons were able to provide a more accurate record of the proceedings. Older sister had left the scene but was found walking down 58th SW. She was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.
