Police Blotter week of 3/01/10
Mon, 03/01/2010
Early Tuesday, officers went to the intersection of 42nd and Fauntleroy where they found a man lying in the middle of the street, eating a bowl of soup. The 42-year-old had told a 911 operator of his intention to do this, stating that he was trying to figure out why he was still alive after having been hit by a car at this location in the 1980s. He told officers that he would like to go to Harborview to “get some things figured out,” so an ambulance was called to provide transport.
Up on SW 107th, someone siphoned over 24 gallons of gas from three parked cars.
At the Alaska Junction, a woman made $500 worth of transactions at one store using counterfeit bills.
A resident of Fauntleroy Way called 911 to report ongoing harassment from a neighbor. The latest? She had been accused of stealing chicken from a grill. Though the accuser wouldn't answer the door, her boyfriend admitted that his partner is an alcoholic and might have other substance issues. (A records check showed that she's also a registered sex offender who is wanted on a $10,000 misdemeanor warrant.)
Procedures in place allowed the medical staff at a local retirement home to quickly realize that someone had absconded with narcotics meant for elderly patients. The only technician with access to the meds came in to answer questions. She said she hadn't seen anything suspicious, and then turned in her uniform, thanking the staff for the employment opportunity. A total of 13 pills went missing (over-the-counter meds had been substituted). There was no information on whether residents had suffered any medical issues because of the switch. The suspect—whose name on the police report shows 14 aliases—remains at large.
By court order, the staff at a local mental health facility had to release a patient to her husband's custody. But they called officers when she refused to get in his car and instead walked out into the street and was nearly hit by passing vehicles. She then returned to the parking lot, tried to get into other cars (she claimed were hers) and then wanted to drive off in her husband's car. (He removed the key so that she couldn't.) She told officers she wanted to go to Harborview but showed no signs of cooperating in trying to get there. When an ambulance arrived, officers were forced to pick her up and place her on the gurney for transport.
A trifecta down on Harbor Avenue early Monday: Officers noticed a car being driven with a broken taillight. A few moments later, someone threw a can out of the passenger side window. After pulling the car over, the officers were able to 1) cite the driver for driving under the influence, 2) book his front seat passenger for an existing $5,000 warrant for 1st-degree malicious mischief, and 3) reunite the back seat passenger (a missing juvenile from Pierce County) with his mom.
