March 30 – Ballard: 5 Roosevelt: 3. March 31 – Ballard: 8 Bothell: 17
Down 3-0 at the end of the third inning, it looked as if the Ballard High School baseball team was on the way to its fifth loss in a row March 30 against Roosevelt.
But, the Beavers were able to rally. They scored one run in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth to head into the seventh inning within one run of Roosevelt.
Junior Brendan Foor gave Ballard the lead and sent it on its way to its first victory of the season with a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
The Beavers held on to win 5-3, giving senior pitcher Charlie Beaudoin his first win of the season.
Coach John Lamm said his kids didn't give up against Roosevelt, and it felt great to get the win.
The Beavers tried to pull off another rally the next day but fell short, losing 17-8 to Bothell.
Ballard found itself down 8-1 after the second inning but was able to cut Bothell's lead to 10-7 with a six-run fourth inning.
The Beavers gave up five runs to Bothell in the top of the fifth to bring the rally to a screeching halt.
Lamm said the team stayed in it but made a lot of mistakes and couldn't get an out when they needed it in the fifth inning.
Lamm said the Beavers, especially the younger players, are hitting the ball a lot better than at the start of the season.
Ballard scored 13 runs in the last two games compared to two runs in the previous three.
Freshman Rory Graf-Brennen went three-for-three against Roosevelt, and freshman Frank Airey went two-for-four against Bothell.
Foor and senior Colin Johnson both went three-for-four against Bothell.
Ballard (1-3 KingCo, 1-5 overall) faces Woodinville at 3:45 p.m. on April 2 at Whitman Middle School.
