A sharp-eyed citizen and an alert officer led to the arrest of two adults and two juveniles on suspicion of car prowling early Friday. The citizen called in the suspicious behavior in the 3000 block of Beach Drive, along with a description of a dubious vehicle and its occupants. About 20 minutes later, an officer spotted the likely suspects and pulled them over near Beach Drive and SW Douglas. In the rear seat were two tennis rackets that had been stolen from the original site, as well as a number of other possible stolen items. The car was impounded for detectives. Two suspects were booked into King County Jail, a third was booked into the Youth Service Center. The fourth was released to his grandmother but will face charges along with the others. Three of the suspects were from the Burien area. Another was from the Delridge area.
A purse-snatcher grabbed a woman's handbag that was lying on a table in a Jefferson Square business. The victim ran after the suspect—a white female, aged 20-30—who climbed into a white van, which drove off. The victim got both the license plate number and a cell phone dropped by the suspect, and was able to cancel her credit cards before much financial damage occurred. Officers called the number listed as “mom” in the cell phone directory. The woman who answered lives in California. She says she hasn't spoken with her daughter in a long time and believes she is homeless.
After falling at home, a 95-year-old Alki-area man was able to get to a phone and call medics for assistance. He was unable to walk. His legs were covered with sores and feces littered the floor. Medics called officers to document the victim's living conditions to ensure he can get the help that he needs. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Early Sunday, residents of a 35th Ave. SW apartment called 911 to report a stranger banging on their apartment doors and trying to use a key to get in. When officers arrived, the suspect pulled a fire alarm and ran off, trying (unsuccessfully) to hide. He was carrying an open bottle of Olde English ale and let loose with a flurry of curse words before being placed on a gurney (struggling all the way) by medics for transport to Harborview. It turns out his girlfriend lives in a neighboring apartment complex and that due to his impaired condition (which, according to Harborview staff, included the hallucinogen PCP0 he was lost.
