Senior pitcher Ryan Garrett held Garfield to zero runs on three hits April 22, earning his second win of the season.
Junior Danny Thompson hit a two-run walk-off home run to beat Garfield April 20 as the Ballard High School baseball team continues to put up wins in the second half of the season.
The Beavers and Garfield were knotted at zero heading into the bottom of the seventh. Junior Oliver Guarino got on base with his first hit of the day, and Thompson brought him home with his first hit of the day.
Senior Ryan Garrett pitched all seven innings, giving up three hits while striking out seven and walking two.
Ballard, winner of two in a row for the first time this season, has won three of its last four games and four of its last six to raise its record to 5-6 in KingCo (5-8 overall) and move into third place in the KingCo Crown division.
Coach John Lamm said his players are starting to believe in the team.
"Under adversity, instead of finding ways to lose, we are beginning to find ways to win," Lamm said.
After starting out the season with four straight losses, the Beavers have five games remaining to finish the season with a winning-record.
Despite having lost to four of its final five opponents earlier this season, Lamm said he believes Ballard has a chance to win three or four of its last five games.
Lamm said the pressure is on the Beavers' opponents, his team just needs to go out and have fun.
"I keep telling my kids there's no pressure," he said. "This is all fun. No one gave us an absolute chance to be where we're at."
Ballard has a chance to even its record against Lake Washington at 7 p.m. on April 22 at Lee Johnson Field. Lake Washington beat the Beavers 2-0 on March 23 to open KingCo play.
