Suspect charged with first-degree murder
Taape Nunu, 29, stands accused of beating Robert Marrs to death in a SeaTac Motel 6. According to charging documents, Nunu had robbed a female acquaintance of her cigarettes and beer earlier in the evening then smoked some drugs with a woman and Marrs. Without apparent reason, Nunu punched Marrs in the head and face before fleeing the motel. Marrs later died. King County Sheriff's deputies arrested Nunu at a bus stop nearby. He was carrying a backpack belonging to Marrs and admitted to beating him. Nunu has been charged with first-degree murder and remains jailed on $1 million bail.
Air marshal accused of rape
Lecheton O. Settles, 30, a federal air marshal, has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape on allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at the Sea-Tac Marriott Hotel. According to charging documents filed, Settles contacted an escort through a website.
The woman agreed to perform a "show" for Settles for $180. She went into the hotel bathroom to change. When she emerged from the bathroom, Settles was nude, except for the marshal's badge hanging from his neck and a pistol in his hand. He identified himself as a U.S. air marshal and told her she must do as he said. He proceeded to rape the woman on the bed then demanded she return the money he'd paid her.
After leaving the hotel the woman called a friend who then told her to call the police. Sheriff's Deputies arrested Settles at the hotel. He denied sexual contact with the woman but adjusted his story after detectives told him the woman correctly noted that his body was devoid of hair., according to charging papers. Settles, a resident of Herdon Virginia, remains in King County Jail on $250,000 bail. He also has been fired from his job.
Car prowler charged with bomb threats
A Seattle man arrested on suspicion of prowling cars in Tukwila is facing felony bomb threat charges. In charging documents, Tukwila investigators say 33-year-old William Joseph Madden was arrested after being spotted trying door handles on parked cars in the 14700 block of 58th Avenue South.
Arriving officers arrested Madden at the scene. A Tukwila detective noted that Madden became extremely agitated. Madden began making threats to blow up the Tukwila Police Station and to wipe Tukwila off the map. There were also threats to shoot officers. Multiple other threats were made while he was detained in a patrol car, according to investigators. Madden is currently being held on $100,000 bail.
Burien man suspected in Centralia shoplifting
A duo was suspected to have stolen over $2,000 worth of merchandise from five different Outlet Mall stores in Centralia. An anonymous caller, who jotted down a license plate, led police to the car found parked at the Coach Store. In the car police found several jackets, shirts, shoes and wallets. Jonathan J. Garcia, a 28-year-old Burien man, and a juvenile male, were arrested.
