A car with a driver and three passengers flew past officers on Avalon Way early Saturday, peeling around corners, barely missing parked cars and blowing through the stop sign at 28th and Yancy. When it pulled over near Delridge, the officer in pursuit could see frantic movements inside and noticed the driver changing places with the front seat passenger (who turned out to be his older brother). The driver was a 17-year-old whose license was already suspended and who was facing charges of reckless driving with a suspended license and obstruction from a felony incident on April 21st. Though unemployed, he was carrying $500 cash.
His 19-year-old brother is a convicted felon with a long criminal history who was just released from jail in March. One of the passengers is well known to local officers and has a history of violence toward them. The car was filled with marijuana smoke (though all denied partaking of the herb), and the ownership of the car was in doubt—especially since the only piece of registration provided for the vehicle—allegedly purchased the day before—was a supposed “bill of sale” written on a piece of notebook paper. The passengers were released; the suspect was released to his mother and can likely expect new charges to be added to his collection.
Around 5 p.m. Friday, a North Admiral robbery between jr. high classmates (several stole another's backpack and beat the victim as well) escalated into a larger incident when some of the suspects ran into the street near California Ave. SW and SW Admiral Way and caused a two-car collision. They were later found near 50th and Stevens, arrested, and released to their parents—but will be investigated for possible robbery charges.
