The Ballard High School softball team put up a fight May 3 against Roosevelt but couldn't get the win, falling 3-2 and losing its third game in a row.
The Beavers fell into a 2-1 hole in the first inning, but junior Bernie Cardon tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth. Roosevelt retook the lead in the sixth, and Ballard put two runners aboard in the seventh but couldn't bring them home.
Cardon and freshman Brittney Blokker led the Beavers offensively, each going two-for-three with an RBI, as Ballard outhit Roosevelt five to three.
Freshman pitcher Andrea Jewett struck out seven batters in six innings but also gave up six walks.
The loss dropped Ballard to 3-7 in KingCo and 7-7 overall.
Coach Kyle Gray said the team has been struggling with consistency and needs to regain its focus.
He said the goal for the final two weeks of the season is for his players to give it their all and work hard so they don't look back on these final games with regrets.
"Our goal is to just go out there and leave it all on the field," Gray said.
The Beavers have a chance to break their longest losing streak of the season at 4:30 p.m. on May 4 at Redmond High School.
