Senior experience key to Beamer victory

Seniority!
Todd Beamer's soccer team used seniors, and a certain junior with star power, to propel themselves to a 4-0 victory over the Graham Kapowsin Eagles on Tuesday at Federal Way Memorial.
"Senior power. Senior power," said one player who began it as others joined in, clapping hands.
"It was fun," said Brett Lucas, the Beamer coach, talking of this game against an inferior opponent.
G-K is not that good, they will finish second to last place in the SPSL South (2-11-2), and Beamer will be second or third place (9-2-3) depending on its last game of the season. But, that said, Beamer had fun winning this one with different combinations on the field like goalies playing in unusual spots like forward.
And the game versus the Gators should be fun to watch, albeit meaningless far as any change in the standings go. In fast and furious action, the Titans won the first season meeting against Decatur, 1-0, in a well played game by both sides with the game-winner scored in the last four minutes of play.
And this one could be labeled great on this day May 7 to end both's seasons, but the Titans lost a game to Puyallup a week ago, 2-0, playing without two of its biggest names, Ugo Okali, who scored two goals against G-K, and also Troy Peterson. So, the loss makes this game versus the Gators a good rivalry game to end the season and momentum. Of course, one wants the 'mo going into the po' (postseason).
In this game, right from the get-go out of the gate, the Titans scored, with senior Scott Ferrin -- a back-up keeper to Ben Draeger on the team -- went to play forward and knocked one in off a nice dribble into the 18 and pass back assist from Keaton House, 1-0.
"I don't get to do this very often, go out on the field, so this was fun," said Ferrin. "I wasn't expecting it (the goal)."
The next Beamer goal came with Draeger coming out of goal and putting in a shot in the second half, a great ball passed right to left inside the 18 yard box from Okali, that made that one happen with 22 minutes left in the second half.
Draeger nearly scored another, with Okoli also passing him the ball and Austin Sweeney also sent a ball into the middle for Draeger that the good usual Titans SPSL all-league keeper usually saves.
"I should have had two," said Draeger, talking to teammates, smiling his way and talking to him. "But I was nervous."
Okoli scored the next two goals for the Titans. And, do note that Okali missed more than just the Puyallup game this season. He was out a few games this season, with a lot of the reason his being on the U-20 national team. Okali is just a speedy, speedy player, who looks like a flash of lightning with a black and white object out there appendaged to him. He scored with 17 minutes left, scoring an unassisted goal streaking into the 18 yard box and placing the ball perfectly by the keeper far post.
Okali then scored wtih nine minutes left, another great ball played in by Sweeney, a through-ball from 35 yards out on the left side, chipped over the defense, that Okali handled on the run and pocketed it past a standing keeper from just inside the 18.
Okoli is going to be around for state, trying to help the Titans get farther than two years ago when they lost in the semifinals of state for 4th place. And, last year, they lost in the opening round of state but it was to South Kitsap, who went on to win state in '09.
So, Okoli is back, and, Peterson, out with an injury the last couple games, including Puyallup as noted, will be back and both are integral to this team's play against the state's best, which down the line could include playing Decatur, Thomas Jefferson, or even Federal Way.
"It's fun, we've had some conflicts, and now, hopefully we get everything on track for state and get some momentum against Decatur in this last game of the season (May 7)," said Okoli, who does things with the ball and without the ball making looping runs and, of course don't forget passing to teammates for a perfect position to themselves do something with the ball. "I try to look for teammates."
Okoli was not even on the scoring leaders' radar this season nor Peterson down the list but both the last two years have been atop the leaders where Andrew Weishaar won the total points title with 27 goals and five assists. Last year, Okoli had around 20 goals and five assists while Peterson was around 15 goals and 15 assists. So that's quite a lot of firepower missing some this season for the Titans.
"We'll should have Troy healthy and Ugo is back," said Lucas.
And now down to business...
"We have to start focusing for the next couple weeks," said Lucas. "We have the right tools, just a matter of getting them in the right spots. With everyone inspiring each other, we should be fine."
