This is the sixth year that the event has been held in Federal Way, and with a new July race date, it is one of the first all-women triathlon events in Puget Sound.
The event ─ a combination of swimming, biking and running ─ can be run as either a Sprint or SuperSprint Course.
Entry fees support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. To date, the USWTS has raised more than $1 million for this cause. Other 2010 USWTS cities are Naperville, Ill. (June 12-13) and San Diego (Oct. 16-17). Information on these events is at www.USWTS.com.
More than just a race, the U.S. Women's Triathlon provides a supportive environment for women of all ages, fitness levels and athletic abilities. Women can compete individually or as part of a relay team with friends. The race also includes a Triumph Division, which is open to women in all stages of cancer recovery and treatment, and a Family Division for relatives who wish to race in support of family members. Space is limited in these two special divisions.
Race weekend begins Sat., July 10, with the MultiSport Experience, a FREE expo held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Steel Lake Park in Federal Way. Open to the public and mandatory for race participants, the Expo has clinics on training and nutrition, product demonstrations and bargains on gear and apparel. Course talks throughout the day will provide tips on triathlon basics and race strategies. Participants will be briefed on the race and can pick up race packets, t-shirts and bags.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is the official charity of the U.S. Women's Triathlon Series. The fund is dedicated to early diagnostic treatment programs and research toward the ultimate conquest of ovarian cancer. As OCRF works to find a cure, it also seeks to support patients and their loved ones in understanding the disease and its treatment, providing outreach programs and raising public awareness. A portion of the proceeds from this event goes to support this important work. A tax-deductible donation is included with race entries. For more information, visit www.ocrf.org.
