WestSide Baby Executive Director Nancy Woodland hands a box of Huggies diapers to her friend Emma during the unloading of a semi truck full of 200,000 diapers given to the organization by manufacturer Kimberly-Clark as part of their "Every Little Bottom" program.
Kimberly-Clark, makers of Huggies brand diapers made an enormous delivery of 200,000 diapers today, June 23 to WestSide Baby 10032 15th Avenue Southwest in White Center. WestSide Baby is a non profit organization that collects and coordinates the distribution of used clothing, toys and diapers, lots of diapers to thousands of families throughout West Seattle and White Center every year.
The diapers were brought in by a semi truck, backing into the tiny parking lot outside their location.
The diapers WestSide Baby got will be distributed throughout the year by their distribution partners, established social service agencies such as food banks, DSHS or the Public Health Department.
Arriving promptly at 11AM the delivery truck was opened and Executive Director of WestSide Baby Nancy Woodland jumped in and began unloading with the help of her own children, board members, and other volunteers.
Woodland said, "I'm kind of out of my mind excited right now. We've been waiting for something like this to happen like forever since we opened 10 years ago. So watching this huge orange truck backing itself into our little itty bitty parking lot is like... it's better than Christmas. It's a good thing. There will lots of better diapered babies in West Seattle and White Center so it's great."
Jim Klenk, Business Development Manager for Kimberly-Clark was on hand and said, "This is just terrific, Kimberly-Clark 'Every Little Bottom' program is to help organizations across the country. I think it's just a great program and I'm very proud to be part of Kimberly-Clark and be part of this and what we're doing. Right now we have 10 diaper banks across the country receiving 200 thousand diapers each. We're looking at bringing in another 18 million diapers by the fall."
Kimberly-Clark contacted agencies around the country and asked them to come to a meeting to discuss what they might do to better serve diaper needs. Woodland said, "Huggies called us in the fall and asked us if we'd be interested in talking about diaper need across the country. We all met in Chicago and this is the result."
