Police investigate woman's homicide
Des Moines police are investigating the homicide of a woman who was found in an apartment early Tuesday, Aug. 31. The landlord of the complex, who lives in an adjacent unit, called 911 just after midnight after hearing thumping sounds from the apartment in the 24000 block of 25th Avenue South. The landlord also said the dogs inside the unit were barking excessively, which was unusual, police said in a news release.
Police received no response at the door, but were able to look in a window over the front door. Officers saw the victim on the floor just inside the entryway and entered the apartment. Police say it was evident the woman had died from homicidal violence.
The victim is white, 28 years old, and she is believed to be the tenant of the apartment. The King County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Jennifer L. Walstrand.
Son drives intoxicated mother around
A vehicle was pulled over on the 3200 block of South 176th Street for suspicion of drunk driving. A 16-year-old boy was driving his intoxicated mother around. The son did not have a driver's license and he too was intoxicated. Both were arrested and booked. The boy faces charges of DUI.
Office break-in
Police responded to a break in at an office on the 400 block of S.W. 152nd St. Unknown person(s) pushed in the top portion of the Dutch door and climbed over office furniture to gain access to the office. The subject(s) kicked holes in the wallboard, tore off light fixtures and lights.
Van stolen, vandalized
A vehicle stolen in Sumner turned up in the 200 block of S 162nd. The car thief "punched" the passenger door lock and ignition to gain access to the van. It was found with the tires and wheels removed and had been sprayed inside and outside with WD40.
Drunken disturbance leads to 3 arrests
Officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex on the 3400 block of S. 160th St. The person that called police was not a resident of the apartments but it was determined that he largely instigated the incident. Three of the four residents involved in the complaint had active warrants and were arrested and booked into King County Jail. The instigator was escorted off the property.
