Ballard High School's Michael Day took first place Sept. 7 at the Jackson Park Golf Club, but the boys golf team fell to Newport High School 205-215.

Day shot par with 36 strokes, two strokes ahead of Newport's Kevin Zhao.

Also placing for the Beavers was Eric Frank, whose 43 was good enough for fifth place.

Ballard is 0-2 this season, but its score of 215 shows an eight-stroke improvement over its previous match at Jackson Park.

Next up for the Beavers is Inglemoor High School at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 9 at Jackson Park. Last season, Inglemoor beat Ballard by seven strokes in their lone matchup.
