The game is hanging in the balance.

Graham-Kapowsin is driving for a score and an opportunity for a tie with 19 seconds left in a 53-45 donnybrook of a game Friday at Art Crate Stadium in Spanaway.

But the momentum is about to shift. And how.

On a second-and-goal play at the Todd Beamer 1-yard line, Eagles running back Matt Dawley takes the hand off and tries to crease the Titans' defensive line.

Beamer tackle Michael Riedel is there, waiting, and he hits Dawley right in the chest and jars the ball loose.

The ball pops up in the air and big defensive end Milo Loving-Williams catches it, breaks a tackle, and races down the left sideline for a Beamer score, sealing a 59-45 SPSL South Divison win, and, more importantly, keeping Beamer (3-3 in league, 3-4 overall) in the playoff hunt. G-K, a former top-10 team, dropped to 3-3, 4-3.

"It was a great run," said Beamer coach David Sundheim. "It was great being on the sideline (when it happened), everyone was happy. It was the direct opposite of the way we felt after the Federal Way game (a 40-35 loss last week).

Beamer senior quarterback TJ Esekielu, who rushed for a school-record 377 yards against Federal Way, had another big game. He ran for 189 yards on 25 carries and three touchdowns. He passed for 257 yards and three more touchdowns, accounting for an astonishing 446 yards of the Titans' 592 yards of total offense.

His favorite receivers were Willie Roach, who hauled in four passes for 179 yards and a touchdown, and 6-foot-1, 225-pound tight end Nicky Fualaau, who caught five passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns.

"Faualaau made some big-time catches," Sundheim said. "He got hit hard."

The Titans scored 41 points in the first half, highlighted by two razzle-dazzle passing touchdowns in the second quarter.

Senior wide-receiver Marcus Sadler, on two lateral passes from Tanielu, hit junior wide-receiver Nick Bod with scoring passes of 80 and 60 yards in the second quarter.

Beamer had 400 yards of total offense in the first half alone in racing to a 41-24 lead.

"This was a big win, we made a lot of big plays," Sundheim said. "We needed it."

Next up is Puyallup.

Beamer, who will play the Vikings at 7 p.m. Thursday at Federal Way Memorial Stadium, shocked Puyallup 21-7 last year. If the Titans win, they will make the playoffs.

"We're going to work at covering the pass (in practice)," Sundheim said. "Puyallup (2-4, 2-5) likes to throw the ball around."
