Police Blotter Week of 11-22-10

In a love story from the north gone awry, on Nov. 16 around 1:45 p.m. a man heard a knock at the door at his home on the 4600 block of n.e. 103 St. The woman at the door told him she was hopelessly lost trying to figure out how to catch a bus to Northgate. The male told her where the nearest bus stop was and she asked if he could tell her when the next bus would arrive. Doing the neighborly thing, the man invited her in and went online to check the schedule. The woman thanked him for his time and asked for his phone number so they could “hook up” sometime. About 30 minutes later she gave him a call and said she was on the bus headed to Northgate Mall and that he should meet her there. He hopped in his car and sped to the mall, but could not find the woman anywhere. Instead, he ran into a friend and told him what had happened. His friend responded, “Dude, she’s probably robbing you right now.” They both took off back to his house and, sure enough, his house had been burglarized. He tried to call the phone number from which the woman had called and it rang as inactive. There were no signs of forced entry, but the house did have a dog door which may have been used. The suspect was not apprehended, but the victim assured police he would recognize her if he ever saw her again.
A phone-snatching occurred at the bus stop on the corner of 35th Ave s.w. and s.w. Raymond St last week around 4:30 p.m. A woman was sharing the metro shelter with the suspect for about five minutes when he snatched the phone from her hands and fled east on s.w. Raymond St. The victim got up and chased the suspect for several blocks until an unknown Good Samaritan in a white vehicle saw the ordeal and helped out. He was able stop the suspect and retrieve the victim’s phone for her. Officers did an area check for the suspect but were unable to find him. The Good Samaritan did not stick around to be interviewed by police.
A mystery house burglary occurred on s.w. City View St last Tuesday when a woman left her house for three hours in the early evening. She had left a space heater plugged in and turned on and when she returned, she noticed the heater was unplugged and her $3500 MacBook Pro was missing. Officers and the victim checked every window and door in the house and everything was locked. The victim said she was the only one with a key and had no idea how someone got in. Neighbors who were interviewed did not see any unusual activity.
Downtown on the 2300 block of e. Jefferson St, two victims were sitting in their van when two suspects described as black males in their early twenties with dark hoodies and dark sweat pants walked up and demanded they give up everything in their pockets, implying they both had guns. The victims said it was obvious the suspects just had their hands in their pockets and the “guns” were just fingers poking through their sweatshirts. The victims-no-longer refused to given anything up and the suspects gave up, fleeing westbound on e. Jefferson.
