On Dec. 27 a couple living on the 5300 block of 21st Ave s.w. called police to report a burglary. They suspect their own granddaughter (who lives with them), who has been using meth and marijuana and hanging out with a known burglar. There were no signs of forced entry to the exterior of the house, but the locks of three rooms were broken by a screwdriver found on the scene. $300 in cash, three diamond rings worth $200 each, a set of $1000 diamond earrings, an iPad, a Toshiba laptop, a Zune mp3 player and a Daisy CO2 BB gun were stolen. Police took the screwdriver for fingerprint analysis and the couple’s granddaughter has been missing since the burglary.
A black male, approximately 5’9” and 19-years-old, skinny with a blue and white bandanna covering his mouth and nose, black clothes and sporting a black handgun walked into a store on the 3200 block of SW Avalon Way at 3 a.m. last Monday and robbed the joint. The suspect pointed his handgun at the clerk, threw a white plastic bag on the floor near the register and said, “put the money in the bag.” The clerk put $100 into the bag which the suspect grabbed and ran westbound. There were no injuries reported.
Copper welding leads and a Jobox toolbox were stolen from a business on the 500 block of s. Riverside Dr sometime last weekend. The foreman called police when he arrived at work Monday morning to discover the Master Lock cut off of a shipping container that contained the copper. A separate garage was broken into that housed the toolboxes. The toolbox was not your standard civilian-grade model, but a massive box that requires a forklift to move it around. Turns out the thieves fired up a forklift left on the premises and likely used it to lift the box into their vehicle. After the forklift served its duty, the suspect(s) left it running. The foreman found the battery dead and the starter damaged when he arrived. The foreman told police he suspects “two white males in their mid-twenties who frequently loiter around his yard, scrapping for metal.” The possible suspects drive a gold Chevy S10 pickup.
