The new 7-Eleven at 9200 35th Ave. s.w. is open and a grand opening celebration is set for Jan. 7 from 10:00am to 2:00 pm.
To celebrate the grand opening, the store will offer complimentary sandwiches, grill items, drinks, chips, and desserts plus the 7-Eleven corporation will be giving away prizes for all visitors as well.
This is the second 7-Eleven store to be owned by Nirbhai Singh who purchased the store at 9041 Delridge Way s.w. 7 and a half years ago.
His motivation was, "Just to be a success. I enjoy it and it's a good company to work with."
He has hired his relatives to work there including his cousin Talwinder Singh and another cousin's son Jassi Singh.
The new store has a brand new coffee storage and dispensary system with each flavor or brew in its own hotpot, with each one being brewed fresh every two hours.
Singh came to the U.S. in 1998 and at first delivered the Auto Trader magazine but aspired to be a business owner. According to store employees, well over 90% of all 7-Eleven franchise stores in the U.S. are owned by people of Indian descent. Singh borrowed the money to buy the Delridge location and has owned it and worked there since 2004.
"The biggest differences are the gas (selling for $3.09 a gallon on Jan 3, bio-diesel (selling for $3.59 a gallon on Jan 3) which are cheaper than other stations, including I think even Safeway," Singh said.
The freebies offered by the store (while supplies last) are A FREE Big Gulp on Jan. 7, a FREE small Slurpee drink on Jan. 8, a FREE large coffee on Jan. 9, a FREE taquito on Jan. 10, a FREE 1/8 lb Big Bite Hot Dog on Jan. 11, a FREE 7-Select chips on Jan. 12 and a FREE glazed donut on Jan. 13.
