Last weekend at a grocery store in the Westwood Village on s.w. Barton a female security guard noticed a 5’8” white male wearing blue jeans walk to the beer section. He went for two 24 oz. tallboys of Old Speckled Hen, a British beer known (according to its website) for “its rich amber colour and superb fruity aromas (which) are complemented by a delicious blend of malty tastes.” In reverence to those fruity aromas and malty tastes, the suspect decided to put one in his coat pocket and pay for the other. He walked to the self checkout lane and attempted to pay for the visible beer (valued at $2.79) with a $1000 Costa Rican note. The note only has a USD value of $2.00 so the suspect was a bit short. He put both beers in his coat and headed for the front door. The security guard stopped him and asked for the beer back. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” the man said as he walked around her. She tried to detain the suspect and both fell down outside the sliding doors and rolled into the parking lot. The suspect got up and fled southbound towards s.w. Roxbury St. The suspect left a black knit cap, lighter and Costa Rica currency behind which police submitted to evidence.
A man walked into his home on the 3400 block of 47th Ave s.w. last Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. and the first thing he saw was his dog barking and running towards the back door, which was open. As he looked around the house, the victim realized he had walked in on an active burglary – there was a duffel bag that had been taken from one room and placed in another, open and ready to be filled with loot. His timing was impeccable and nothing was stolen before the unknown suspect(s) were startled and fled.
