Update 4 on Feb. 17:
The probable cause document relating to suspect's charges was released by King County Prosecutors on Feb. 17. The transcription is included below:
On 2-16-11 at approx. 0100 hrs SPD was called to 9309 44th Ave SW, in the city of Seattle, county of King and the State of Washington to investigate the murder of Robert STABILE. According to the victim’s domestic partner (DP), the victim left the residence and picked up an unknown male and returned to the residence around 2130 hrs. The DP stated that shortly after midnight she heard the victim yelling out in pain then he ran into her bedroom yelling that he had been stabbed in the chest. The DP called 911 at approx. 0014 hrs and reported the assault in progress. The area was secured and a K-9 track was used in an attempt to locate the suspect. SFD attempted to treat the victim but he died due to the injuries he suffered during the attack. The K-9 unit tracked to a nearby ravine where the track ended with negative results. At approx. 1030 hrs a suspicious W/M covered in mud was observed leaving the area of the ravine and units responded and contacted the suspect. The suspect explained that he had been looking for his sister’s dog. During the course of the investigation it was discovered that there had been prior contact between the suspect and the victim regarding a future sexual encounter. After Miranda warnings were waived by the suspect he admitted to going to the victim’s residence the night of the murder and that there was no one else at the residence at that time. He described the scene down to the drinks they had, the suspected narcotics used, the medical marijuana grow in the basement and even his hat that was later recovered at the scene. He stated that he left the residence at 0030 hrs to 0100 hrs several times to detectives which was also cooberated (sic) by a witness in the neighborhood. When confronted with “hurting” the victim the suspect denied any wrong doing and then demanded to be released if we were not arresting him.
Update 3:
The victim of a fatal stabbing in West Seattle late Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning has been identified in a Seattle Times article as 60-year-old Hokum W. Jeebs, a vaudeville entertainer born with the name Robert Stabile.
A YouTube video of Jeebs performing has been added and more background on his life will be added shortly.
The 19-year-old male suspect apprehended by police on Feb. 16 is expected in court this afternoon, Feb. 17, for a bail hearing.
Update 2:
Southwest Precinct Operations Lt. Pierre Davis has confirmed police arrested a suspect in the stabbing death of a man on 44th Ave s.w. last night.
He said they were able to track down the suspect this morning and a man was booked into the Seattle Correctional Facility around 2 p.m. today.
The suspect's name has not been released at this time.
Update 1:
A man in his 60s was fatally stabbed in the chest on the 9300 block of 44th Ave s.w. shortly after midnight on Feb. 16.
Police said it is possible the victim and suspect knew each other and a manhunt is currently underway, however they have not released whether or not they have a specific suspect in mind at this time.
The victim's wife called 911 at 12:15 a.m. and stated she found her husband stabbed by another man inside the house. The killer had fled by the time she found her husband.
Although the Seattle Police Department's media response team has been unavailable for comment, King 5 reported this morning that Captain Greg Schmidt with the SPD said the victim and killer had been arguing both outside and inside the house before the stabbing occurred, leading them to believe they knew each other.
King 5 reported Captain Schmidt said he did not believe the neighborhood was in danger and they would have a suspect in custody, "at some stage of the game in this investigation."
As of 11 a.m. on Feb. 16 there were three crime scene investigation vans and two SPD squad cars parked outside the residence.
A nearby neighbor, who asked not to be named, told the Herald the wife of the victim was very active in cat rescue and the deceased husband was known for playing his piano in his garage during the summer, filling the neighborhood with music.
The names of the victim will not be released until police give out that information. The SPD press release is below.
From the SPD blotter:
On February 16th, at approximately 12:15 AM, Seattle Police and Seattle Fire responded to a call of a stabbing in the 9300 Block of 44th Avenue Southwest. A woman called 911 stating that her husband had just been stabbed by another man inside their residence.
Officers arrived quickly and discovered the victim, a man in his 60′s, with a stab wound to his chest. Seattle Fire Department medics came in, but the victim was already dead. Officers set up containment for a K9 track, but the suspect was not located. Homicide and CSI detectives arrived at the location and began their investigation. It is possible that the victim and suspect knew each other.
The Homicide Unit will be reponsible for the follow up investigation. Anyone with information on this crime is urged to contact Seattle Police.
