Sustainable West Seattle offers a busy Saturday
Thu, 03/10/2011
Sustainable West Seattle is planning a 'Perfect Storm' of sustainability on Saturday Mar. 12 with a series of events set to take place in and around the Landscape/Horiticulture Complex at South Seattle Community College.
Ask an Expert for the DIYer, 10am-NOON
@ The West Seattle Tool Library
Each month, The Tool Library hosts some local experts who are happy to answer any questions that you may have on your current projects, future ideas, or anything else you liked to discuss. These open and informal community meetups offer an opportunity to bounce project ideas off fellow DIYers and even receive some free professional advice in the process. You can then grab whatever tools you need from The Tool Library to get your ideas off the ground (or in the ground, if that's the case.) As always, please feel free to show up whenever you darn well please and leave whenever you like. We'll bring the coffee and pastries and look forward to seeing you there!
This month, The Tool Library will host:
Laura & Doug Elfline, Mighty Home Construction (Green Building)
Sandy Pederson, Urban Land Army (Urban Gardening)
Nikola Davidson, EarthsystemsNW (Cisterns & Water Harvestin)
Eric Thomas, Solar Epiphany (Solar Power)
Josh Brincko, International Studio (Green Architecture)
Annual Plantings: New Strategies with Old Favorites!, 10am-NOON
@ West Seattle Community Orchard
Planting seeds is something most of us have done since childhood. There are many uncommon techniques that can make annual veggie and fruit gardening less work and more fun. Share information on your favorite annuals for our area, and be prepared to break into small groups to integrate your annual favorites into our emerging perennial orchard system. Please RSVP if you plan to attend: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XFC9SXP
Orchard Workparty, 1pm-3pm
@ West Seattle Community Orchard
Many hands make light work! Lend a couple of your own to developing the Community Orchard's plot at SSCC. Teams will be continuing sheet mulch work as well as turning sod and removing their grassy tops under the direction of Orchard Manager and permaculturist, Laura Sweany. Tools will be supplied by The West Seattle Tool Library.
Seed Swap, 2pm-4pm
@ SSCC LHO Building
Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle will be having it's 2nd Annual Seed Swap. This is a great opportunity to get a nice variety of seeds by buying small packets at $1 each. There will be a table of free seeds as well. Bring in your surplus! For more info: http://www.gleanit.org/seedswap2011.html
