Woman steals car in Ballard; attempt to drive to chicago but runs out of gas
7 a.m. on March 11th. 105th block of Aurora Avenue North.
On the early morning of Friday, March 11th, a North Precinct officer observed a car being driven erratically around 105th and Aurora Avenue North. The officer attempted to pull over the driver, but the driver took off. The officer backed off and did not pursue. It was determined that the car had just been stolen from a dealership in Ballard and an hour later the Washington State Patrol located the stolen car parked along Interstate 90. The adult female suspect was standing next to the car, throwing rocks at it. Seattle Police arrested the suspect, who admitted to having stolen the car. She said she would have driven it all the way to Chicago, had it not run out of gas. The 45 year old female was later booked into the King County Jail for Investigation of Auto Theft and Eluding
Ballard robber arrested
Since February, a pattern of street robberies have occurred in Ballard.
On February 25th, at approximately 10:40 p.m., a man was confronted by the suspect who was armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded the victim’s wallet, money and cellphone. Just after the robbery, surveillance video at two ATM’s captured the suspect using the victim’s debit card in an attempt to get money. The suspect images from the ATM matched the description of the robbery suspect.
On March 8th, shortly after 4:00 PM, Robbery detectives observed the suspect and a companion in the Loyal Heights neighborhood. The suspect was wearing some of the same clothing items he had on in the ATM photos. Detectives took both men into custody and transported them to the Robbery office. The companion was interviewed and released, while the 20 year old suspect was booked into the King County Jail on Investigation of Robbery. It is believed that this suspect may be responsible for four other armed robberies in the Ballard area.
Man brutally assaulted at Golden Gardens Park
On March 7th, a man contacted police and said he'd been brutally assaulted by a large group of suspects after a late-night bonfire in Golden Gardens Park.
According to a police report, the man appeared to have been the recipient of a terrible beating, as the right side of his face was extremely swollen, and he walked with a limp.
The man told police that two night prior he was leaving a bonfire at Golden Gardens with friends around 11:00 p.m. when a group of 8 to 10 men surrounded him.
One of the men in the group was holding a black handgun and accused him of trash talking. He then hit the victim with the gun three times, knocking him to the ground.
The group of suspects joined in, punching and kicking the victim as he lay on the ground until he was unconscious.
When he came to, the victim noticed that his iPod, iPhone, and wallet were missing.
The victim called his father, who took him to the University of Washington Hospital.
The victim told police he did not know his assailants, but thought the assault might have been spurred by "rumors" that he had called an acquaintance "soft and weak."
