2010 Washington Achievement Awards are going to three Highline schools:
· Health Sciences and Human Services High School (HS3) is being recognized for improvement in its extended graduation rate, the graduation rate for all students-- including those who take more than four years to finish high school. HS3 is a small school on the Evergreen campus for students interested in exploring health and social service fields.
· Aviation High School is being honored in two areas: Science; and Overall Excellence for achieving in the top five percent of Washington schools. At Aviation, all subjects are taught in the context of aerospace and aviation, and students are mentored by industry professionals.
· Highline’s Career Link is receiving the award for improvement in language arts (reading and writing achievement combined). Career Link is a partnership with South Seattle Community College that allows students to complete their high school diploma on the college campus.
The awards come from Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. They celebrate the state's top-performing schools in a number of categories. The award is based on the Washington Achievement Index, which measures a school’s progress over time.
