Last Monday police responded to a burglary call on the 3000 block of 39th Ave s.w. The victim is building a house at the location and told police sometime over the weekend a thief “burrowed through the dirt and under the garage door.” Once inside, the unknown suspect broke off a piece of piece of copper pipe sticking out of the wall, causing water to free flow into the garage all weekend. The subfloor and floor insulation were ruined and will need to be replaced. The suspect decided to use the back door instead of the burrow hole on the way out.
From an apartment complex on the 5400 block of California Ave s.w., police responded to a car prowl victim’s call on March 15 about an incident from March 4. The woman told police shortly after midnight (estimation) someone entered her building’s garage, jimmied the lock on her car and stole a camera, car charger, business cards, remote control to the parking garage and keys from a different real estate property. On March 6, around 2 p.m., the woman received a call from an unknown male who swore at her and said “the key didn’t work,” then hung up. The victim believes the unknown suspect returned to her building and tried to use the keys, used the business cards to find her number and called to complain.
Last week on 38th Ave s.w. a homeowner came home at 1:15 p.m. and noticed a group of men walking rapidly away from his neighbor’s house. Next, he noticed a cardboard box next to his driveway that was full of tools which he believed belonged to his neighbor, who was not home. He put the box of tools in his truck for safekeeping and went inside. An hour later he came outside to find his truck window had been shattered and the box of tools was gone. Police responded to the scene and the neighbor confirmed his house had been burglarized. Officers took fingerprints and found a Marlboro cigarette near the victim’s back gate. Neither the victim nor his wife smoke, so the cigarette was submitted for DNA testing in hopes of identifying a subject.
