Minivan crashes into espresso stand
One person was slightly injured when a minivan crashed into a bikini espresso stand near S. 262nd St. and Pacific Highway. Police at the scene say that the minivan went off the highway and crashed head-on into the drive-thru window at Sweet Cheeks Espresso. The driver was slightly hurt in the crash. According to crews at the scene, the barista who would have been standing at the window was unhurt, as she was actually touching up her make-up in another room when the minivan hit.
Burien man charged with murder
A 20-year-old Burien man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a former Kentridge High football star. King County prosecutors believe Jorge Lizarraga shot 18-year-old Devin Topps in the back during a fight last Halloween. Topps was attending a friend's Halloween party in Kent when he got into an altercation with a group of men who were not invited to the party, according to court records. Witnesses told police that Topps and another man were on the ground fighting when Lizarraga pulled out a .40 caliber pistol and fired several rounds into the air. Witness Marlit Vela told police that Lazarraga then walked over to Topps and fired a single shot into his back before firing twice more into the air. Topps died on the scene. Lizarraga already has three felony convictions for burglary and possession of stolen property, and he's facing several other charges related to the Topps murder. He remains jailed on $1.8 million bail and is scheduled to appear in King County Superior Court on April 28, 2011.
More copper wire thefts
Unknown suspect(s) utilized an existing garbage dumpster to climb over an 8' fence topped with barbed wire to access the underside of a strip business located in the 15300 block of 1st Ave. S. Gas and water piping is exposed in the carport area. The suspect(s) cut the copper water pipe from the concrete foundation area from the point where the pipe connected to the drain line. Approximately 40-50 feet of pipe was removed. It appeared that the water source may have been shut off due to the lack of any water coming from where the copper pipe had been removed.
Drunk goes to the wrong house?
A family in the 600 block of S.W. 132nd St. had an unknown visitor enter their home around 4 a.m. The daughter was sleeping in her room on the upper floor and was awakened by someone opening her door and looking around. She was not able to tell the age, sex or race of the person, only that it was a "big, tall person." The family determined that none of them had been walking around at that time and thought someone may have entered their home. Outside they found footsteps in the dirt and called 9-1-1 to report the intruder. Police responded and found staggered footprints, one crossing over the other, and estimated the shoe size was a 12 or 13. Due to the staggered pattern, officers believe the intruder was highly intoxicated. About 6 homes on the block have a similar floor plan. Police believe this to be a case of mistaken entry due to the early hour, nothing missing from the home and the staggered foot prints.
