On April 3 an officer was dispatched to Highline Medical Center to take a report from a victim/patient there who suffered head and hand damage in an assault on the 4700 block of California Ave s.w. the night before. The victim told police he had been drinking and around 1 a.m. on Sunday night was walking to his car when he was hit in the head from behind with a heavy object and knocked out. When he came to his keys, wallet and car were missing. A Good Samaritan spotted the beaten man around 2 a.m. and brought him to the hospital. Police got the word out on the stolen vehicle and a Washington State Police dispatcher said the car had been found on I-90 and impounded. The vehicle was found with blood and a gun on the front seat and a witness had seen a man staggering away from the vehicle (with no further details). The victim told police he kept a .380 semi-auto Bersa handgun stashed under the dashboard behind the fuse panel.
Last weekend suspects broke into a fenced parking lot overnight on the 5400 block of Delridge Way s.w. and pushed a black 2001 Honda S-2000 convertible out from under a carport, pulled back the convertible top and stole both seats, the steering wheel and driver’s side airbag – total value set at $7000. “No one was seen or heard,” according to the police report.
Patrol officers driving along the 6500 block last Monday around 3 a.m. came across a business that had its front door kicked in. They cleared the business for suspects and found many open drawers and contents strewn across the floor. Dispatch attempted to contact the business owner, whose number was disconnected. Police left business cards and a case number at the location for whenever the owner showed up.
On April 6 an employee from Uni Bank called police to report a bashed in section of an unoccupied coffee stand in the parking lot of one of their properties on the 1500 block of s.w. Holden St. Although the report doesn’t say, this is likely the now-closed JoJo’s Fine Espresso (a tiki hut style stand) that shared the corner with Zippy’s Giant Burgers. JoJo’s has been closed since the beginning of 2011, so anything of value beyond bamboo shoots is long since gone.
The copper thieves are at it again, breaking into a Seattle City Light substation on the 4100 block of s.w. Morgan St. some time last week (it was unclear when the theft actually occurred). The substation fence was already damaged from a prior burglary, so the copper junkies cut through the repair at the same spot and stole copper-lined steel ground wires. According to the police report, this is the sixth time a West Seattle City Light substation has been broken into recently, the other victims at 5900 26th Ave s.w. and 5600 23rd Ave s.w.
