Police Blotter Week of 4-18-11
Mon, 04/18/2011
Between 10 and 11 p.m. on April 11 a male victim walking home after getting off the bus along the 3700 block of California Ave s.w. was approached by a white male with a beard, wearing a dark beanie and a red jacket. The bearded man grabbed the victim’s arm from behind, swung him around and pulled out a black handgun. The suspect demanded his wallet and said he had a family to feed, but never raised the gun and pointed it at the victim. The victim pulled out twelve dollars from the top of his wallet and gave it to the robber (he told police he had more money in the wallet). The robber thanked the victim and attempted to shake his hand. The victim declined the gesture and called 911. A K-9 unit was dispatched to the scene but the suspect was not apprehended.
Last Tuesday the owner of a vacant house on the market since November 2010 on the 5600 block of California Ave s.w. received a call from his real estate agent who stopped by the house and noticed a black 1994 Honda Civic sitting in the garage. The home owner stated he hadn’t been to the house since December and called police. Officers confirmed the vehicle was stolen and stated the suspect(s) had removed a garage window to gain entry, opened the garage door and parked the vehicle inside.
130 hydrocodone pills were stolen from a house on the 3500 block of s.w. 97 St last week. The unknown suspect likely entered through the dog door, stole the pills (but left 30 of them), took the garage door key from the living room and didn’t touch anything else. The victim told police her son is in prison, but she suspects his friends.
A house for sale on the 3400 block of s.w. Trenton St. was outfitted with “stager” items to help sell the property, including furniture and miscellaneous household paraphernalia. A real estate agent called police when she came to the house and discovered a bookshelf, candles, bowls, towels, a lamp and some soap missing. After discussing the theft with police, they decided another real estate agent from the same company had likely taken the items to “stage” another house.
A woman got off the bus at 12th Ave s.w. and s.w. Roxbury last Monday and noticed a black female standing with a male (race not given in the report) and a “big golden colored dog” nearby. The black female approached crying and asked the woman if she could use her cell phone to call her mom. The woman finally agreed and gave the suspect her phone. After making a few calls (or faux-calls) the suspect took a swing at the woman, striking her on the cheek with enough force to knock her to the ground and cause a cut. The suspect ran to her male companion and they took off with dog in tow. An off-duty King County Sheriff saw the incident and followed the suspects to a house nearby. He called Southwest Precinct police but by the time they arrived the suspects were gone.
