Police Blotter: Burglary suspect photographed during escape; altercation outside Goodwill; burglar targets beer

1:00 p.m. on April 18th. 97th block of 12th Ave. N.W.
A man returned home on the afternoon of April 18th to find a burglar walking out of his basement. The victim chased the suspect, who turned and pointed a large screwdriver at the victim but then dropped it and put his hands in the air. The suspect then attempted to run away, but the victim chased him and grabbed the suspect’s backpack, which fell to the ground. A bystander saw what was happening and took several high quality pictures of the suspect. Police discovered that the suspect’s backpack had a checkbook with his name on it. There was also a crowbar, which was likely used to break into the victim’s home. The suspect has been linked to another crime but has not yet been apprehended.
1:04 a.m. on April 18th. 83rd block of Greenwood Ave. N.
A business owner received a call in the middle of the night saying that his business alarm had been triggered. The victim drove immediately his business and saw that a window had been forced open. He determined that 60 dollars in cash was missing from the till. The victim found a hammer on the floor, and police believe that it was used to break open the window. No prints were found on the hammer or anywhere in the business. Another burglary at a business on the 82nd block of Greenwood Ave. occurred only a few hours earlier.
11:43 p.m. on April 16th. 73rd block of 18th Ave. N.W.
A woman woke up late on the night of April 16th to the sound of a burglar in her home. The victim heard a loud thud from the kitchen that woke her from a deep sleep. She then heard the sound of glass breaking and called the police. Police found a broken wine glass on the floor and mud on the kitchen sink. They determined that the suspect likely entered through the kitchen window. The victim could not say whether anything had been taken.
11:00 p.m. on April 16th. 77th block of 9th Ave. N.W.
A burglar spent considerable time and effort to break into a home on 9th Ave. on April 16th, and then took very little. The burglar found a ladder to access the house’s windows, cut out three window screens, and entered through the unlocked bathroom window. The suspect thoroughly went through the victim’s belongings, but only took 20-30 dollars in change, a watch, and a pair of sunglasses. Police determined that the burglar wore gloves.
10:18 p.m. on April 15th. 76th block of 1st Ave. N.W.
A man’s house was broken into between April 13th and April 15th, but nothing was taken. The suspect entered through the back door and went through several rooms, but did not take any of the money, credit cards, or valuable electronics in the home. The responding officer found two mismatched footprints, a name, and initials imprinted in the soil outside of the back door.
7: 42 p.m. on April 15th. 64th block of 8th Ave. N.W.
Police responded to a report of two men fighting outside the Ballard Goodwill on April 15th and learned that a fight had broken out between a suspected shoplifter and the store’s security officer. When the police arrived, the suspect told them that his girlfriend had thrown all of his clothes away and he had gone to the store intending to steal clothes. The security officer reported seeing the suspect walking throughout the store and concealing several items in a backpack. When the suspect left without paying, the security officer identified himself, but the suspect attempted to escape and a struggle ensued. Both men sustained minor injuries. The security officer was not able to handcuff the suspect until a customer came to his assistance. The suspect was arrested and booked on robbery charges.
9:45 p.m. on April 14th. 75th block of 17th Ave. N.W.
A burglar broke into a woman’s home and stole nothing but beer. The victim returned home to find her garbage emptied on the floor of her kitchen and the back door damaged. Several drawers had been rifled through, but the victim reported nothing missing other than 7-9 beers from the fridge.
