People arrived long before the store was open, some as early as 5:30 am to be first in line for the best plants at McLendon's Hardware 85th annual Anniversary Sunrise Plant Sale in White Center. For the last 25 years the store has also featured a FREE pancake and sausage breakfast with coffee and juice.
Christine Kincaid was there, first in line for breakfast, having already gotten her pick of the plants. "I live in Des Moines but I like the folks at the McLendon's store so I always come over here."
Paul Jung from West Seattle was in line early too and has been coming by for the last seven years. Katie O'Connell from SeaTac was there with her Mother-in-Law Kay Bonus who said," I always miss this but this year I made it!"
The highlight of the sale every year are the phenomenal fuschias which this year cost $18.99 but everyone gets a FREE tomato plant with any purchase.
Mary Ann Bredl was in charge of the event for the entire McLendon's chain and said, "Our goal is 1300 breakfasts for White Center and 8000 across all the stores."
The pancakes, she said, "Were made with love."
Breakfast was supplied by the Des Moines Creek Restaurant.
