Cinco de Mayo was celebrated a night early upstairs at the Mission Latin Bar and Restaurant in the Admiral Junction with the band Villains of Yesterday and fans who watched their new video release on the TV monitor there. The track "Walls" is from "Zero in the Sun", their album to be released May 24.

The band formed in Nov., 2009. Bandmember Shawn Zellar, drummer and vocalist, lives south of the Alaska Junction. Carl Klein, guitarist and vocalist, also lives in West Seattle. Terry Houser, lead vocalist, lives in South Park, and Sean Gephardt on bass and vocals lives on the East Side. The video was shot in a 50,000 square-foot warehouse with 30-foot ceilings in South Park by West Seattle videographer Jamie Chamberlin. The West Seattle Herald has featured Chamberlin and his video work with ZZ Top and, currently, Duff McKagan and his band Loaded.

For "Walls", Chamberlin utilized the cavernous, industrial space with high angles and wide shots and even a close-up pan with his fish-eye lens. Well, OK, he could have done that shot in a small room, but it still looks cool.

"Jamie did our video in one night, late in our warehouse were I work, the Revere Group Packaging," said Zellar. "We make gift boxes there. Jamie has the vision. We used some fork lifts, about five cameras, and a couple cases of beer and we were off.

"I don't want to date myself, but I was a Kiss fan, Peter Criss.," added Zellar. "I got my first drum set at 6 or 7 years old out of the catalogue. My parents minded but I still banged." He grew up in Raymond, a small logging town near the Washington coast.

"This whole album got inspired by two road trips to California," he said. "The first trip we got hooked up to go down to see Brent Clawson of (punk/hard rock band) Bullets and Octane fame. He runs a studio there. We went down to record one song. It went really well so we did three. He said to come back and do a full length. When we got out of the studio and began the drive back in the rig we were so fired up we wrote a couple of songs in our head. The Ford Explorer was crammed full of gear and four sweaty dudes. It was great. We were so inspired and immediately started writing. Went down again and wrote about the road trip."

Zellar said proudly that Clawson dove in and played piano on their song "Under the Gun".

"My influences were the Beatles, early Crew, and I really like The Pogues," said Klein, who was raised in Indonesia. "My dad was a librarian at the Jakarta Embassy School which became the International School. My mom was an elementary school teacher there. I went there 13 years with both parents as teachers. I was the weird kid for two or three years when I got back. We moved to Whidbey Island, a real culture shock coming from the huge city of Jakarta. There were these two Indonesian guys at a gas station where I worked (on Whidbey). They grew up in the U.S. and knew more about America than I did, and I knew more about Indonesia than they did."

"I work for Microsoft and live on the East Side, but it's much more fun over here," said Anchorage-born Gephardt, referring to West Seattle. "I'm really excited about the video. It looks amazing, a blast to do. Jamie was very professional about the whole thing."
