Ballard’s Ray McCormick wins a faceoff against Roosevelt’s Connor McCarthey. The Beavers went on to win 12 to 7. The boys lacrosse season is now over.
The Ballard softball team played Issaquah last night in a make-up game and saw another win. The Lady Beavers beat Issaquah 3 to 2 in a tight game.
With nine hits, Issaquah was definitely fighting but just couldn't get passed Ballard's defense.
Issaquah was first to put a run on the scoreboard but Ballard quickly followed in the second inning. At the start of the fourth inning, Ballard was ahead three to one but didn't score again for the remainder of the game. Issaquah scored again in the fifth inning.
Jamie Thelen hit another homerun for Ballard and Bernie Cardon hit a 2 RBI double.
At the moment, Ballard is the number 2 seed in the crown division for playoffs. (see bracket)
LAX:
The Ballard girls lacrosse team is currently tied for third with lake Sammamish in the Northeast league of Division II.
Ballard boys lax team is currently ranked 5th in its Metro league and played Roosevelt last night.
Ballard went on a second half scoring frenzy to defeat Roosevelt 12 to 7 in front of a large crowd at Lower Woodland Park on a sunny spring evening. The loss for Roosevelt means the Roughriders will need to face Nathan Hale in a tie-breaker game later in the week to see who advances to the playoffs.
Ballard had five different players score in the contest with Brian Gemme and John DeGarmo leading the team with 3 goals each. Thomas Christensen had two goals, and Jacob Marks, Ray McCormick, and Joe Kirkendall each scored once. Kirkendall had an astounding 11 ground balls and was a key contributor to Ballard controlling the action in the second half.
"It was a great game for Ballard, beating our rivals and former teammates from Roosevelt," said parent, Bob McCormich.
Ballard missed out on the playoffs but McCormick was optimistic stating, "for a first season team they had a really solid season."
Ultimate:
The co-ed team won a doubleheader over the weekend against Bellevue and Mercer Island and they will play U-Prep this Saturday in a battle of undefeated teams for the #1 seed into the playoffs.
The co-ed Ultimate Frisbee championships are May 21st at Magnuson Park.
The girls team is participating in the WA State Championships which starts on May 18th.
