On Sunday, May 15, Nickelsville will move from the Old Lake City Fire House to a new, undisclosed location.
The move of the homeless encampment comes with a call for solidarity as well as celebration.
Last night Seattle blues and fols favorites Joe Martin and Jim Page kicked off the celebrations with a music night at the Old Lake City Fire House and today, the Seattle Displacement Coalition is holding a "Black Cat Caravan". At 2 p.m. convoys from the Old Firehouse will take Nickelsville residents, supporters and advocates to Seattle City Hall to see if Seattle City Council has picked up the pace since resolution #31292 was passed.
Passed earlier this month, resolution #31292 calls for services for homeless people who may not currently be served by the existing shelter system; and creating a work plan and timeline for analyzing alternatives and recommending actions that meet the long term housing and immediate survival and safety needs of homeless people who do not have access to safe shelter.
Prior to the move on Sunday, an Interfaith Worship Service will take place at 3 p.m. at the current Nickelsville location. All are invited to attend.
