Shoplifter assaults security
Police responded to a call at a supermarket on South 128th Street and 1st Avenue South. Security officers were struggling with a shoplifter. A man walked into the store, grabbed two Modelo beers and a roasted chicken and walked out the front door making no effort to pay for the items. Security confronted the man and ordered him to stop. He refused and continued walking. One guard positioned himself in the way of the suspect in an effort to get him to stop. The suspect then pushed the guard with his hand and arm causing injury. Police arrested the man who was still acting uncooperative. The arresting officer recognized the suspect from a shoplifting call less than thirty minutes before at Fred Meyer. The suspect faces charges of Assault and theft.
False report officer shot
Deputies were dispatched to an apartment in the 100 blk of S. 174th for a report of two men shot, including an unknown police officer. The caller stated a shooting involving his "father" a "dude" and a "cop". He admitted he "opened up" (implied gunfire) on the people who "opened up" on his father. He stated he saw a Burien police officer wounded in the backseat of a black car. Deputies converged on the scene using a tactical approach and entered the complex in unmarked cars. They contacted the caller who continued his story to the responding officers about the shooting. Uniformed deputies quickly responded as backup and determined the area to be safe and the caller's story not credible. Upon interviewing the caller he stated he woke up to gunfire, came outside to see a man in a black Cadillac shooting at his dad with an SKS rifle, again referring to a wounded cop in the back seat. The caller stated he picked up the rifle and pulled the trigger until it went "click". When asked about physical evidence, brass or blood spatter he had no logical explanation. Eventually he admitted he made the story up to get police because he wanted to take care of his warrants. Police contacted the caller's mother who stated he has pre-existing bipolar disorder that had recently intensified. She has seen him speaking with people who aren't around, acting confused, engaging in suspicious behavior and hearing voices. It was confirmed that he had an outstanding warrant and now faces charges of false reporting.
