12:02 a.m. on May 16th. 3rd block of N Greenwood Cir.
At around midnight on May 16th, police responded to a complaint that four or five males were fighting in front of a residence. The complainant reported that the suspects left in a red two-door vehicle. Police interviewed the complainant and the victim at the scene. The victim said that he was standing on the corner of Greenwood Ave. N and N Greenwood Cir. when a red car drove up and several men got out of the car and began assaulting him. The victim said that one of the men tried to strangle him. The attackers stole the victim’s wallet, cell phone and iPod and then drove away. The victim told police that he may have been involved in an incident with one of the suspects about a year ago. He said that the suspect was angry with him because he was dating the suspect’s ex-girlfriend. The victim did not know that suspect’s name or recognize any of the other suspects.
5:00 a.m. on May 15th. 90th block of 1st Ave. NW
A man woke up early on May 15th to a loud crash. He looked out the window and saw someone running westbound from his house. The victim went downstairs and found that a kitchen window had been smashed and his son’s Apple iPod Touch was missing. There was a large rock under the table. Police believe that the suspect used the rock to smash open the window and grab the iPod without entering the house. The victim described the suspect as about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, likely male, and dressed in baggy dark clothing. Police found several prints near the window, including a full handprint that was likely left by the burglar. Officers found a man who matched the victim’s description in a car near the house, but he refused to get out of the vehicle and officers did not have probable cause to make him get out.
10:00 p.m. on May 14th. 70th block of 23rd Ave. NW
A man returned home on the evening of May 14th to find a drawer open in the bedroom. The rear door of the residence was damaged and a window had been forced open in the TV room. The victim’s wife reported that a camera had been stolen from a living room desk drawer. The responding officer was able to lift fingerprints from that drawer and from the area around the back door.
May 14th. 70th block of 20th Ave. NW
A man returned home on May 14th to find his back door open and his laptop missing. The burglar also took some money from a tin in a desk drawer. Police believe that the burglar pushed a yard waste bin against a bedroom window and climbed on top of it to reach the window. The suspect then pried off the window screen and forced the window open to enter the residence. In addition to the laptop and money, the victim believed that a blank check may have been taken. Partial fingerprints were found on the tin that contained the money.
May 13th. 54th block of Leary Ave. NW
Two units in the same apartment complex on Leary Ave. were burglarized on May 13th. One burglary occurred between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The victim reported that she left her apartment to eat lunch and probably left her door unlocked. She returned home to find her closet and dresser open. The burglar took the victim’s cell phone and about $4.00 cash. The other burglary occurred between 10:00 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. The victim reported that her backpack had been stolen. It contained her wallet with ID and credit cards as well as cash and her season tickets to the Seattle Opera. The victim insisted that she had locked her door. Police found no signs of forced entry. No fingerprints were lifted from either unit. The apartment complex is a controlled-access building, but there is a stairway in the parking garage that is not difficult to access. The building has had problems with burglary in the past.
3:45 p.m. on May 12th. 2nd block of NW 43rd St.
A house was burglarized while the family was still on the property. The victim reported that she, her husband and their children had been in and out of the house for the past hour or so. At one point, the victim went inside to get her phone, but it was missing. She then checked the rest of the house and found that two laptop computers had also been stolen. The victim told police that she had seen a suspicious male in the neighborhood about a week ago. Officers showed her a picture of a burglary suspect, and she identified him as the man she had seen. No fingerprints were found at the scene. The suspect is known to wear gloves.
